Get him to the Geek....

Don't you hate it when Security at the Casino asks you to check your book....

This happened to me recently while carrying my Android Tablet tucked inside a copy of 'Silence Of The Lambs'......

With all this current talk about the new generation of Android tablets coming next month, it is time I revisit an old project of mine.

Last year, when the dollar hit parity, I took plunge and ordered myself a nice little 7inch called the GPad G10. It is a good little machine which does its job (mainly web surfing, internet radio, comic book reader & Angry Birds while waiting at the airport).

If I was to look at a new tablet now, it would be a waiting game, please don't buy anything until the end of March at least! There are some great looking products coming soon from Motorola, LG and more, so be patient and wait it out.

Any-who, I love my tablet for what it can do, but don't want to be showing every mallrat in Woden that I am rocking a tablet. Having a look at cases on the net I realised '..they all suck!', so I set about making my own case.

After thinking about it for a while, I worked out that a second-hand hard cover would make a great covert tablet case. After an hour with a scalpel knife, felt, PVA & the packaging from the tablet itself I had a safe and secure case for my tablet that also worked as a stand.

That is where all the problems started. Although the design worked great, my creative side decided to decorate the book. The main problem is that when you decide to make new words from the lettering on the spine of 'The Silence Of The Lambs by Thomas Harris', the only thing that works is 'The Lamb homas is'. I think this, mixed with my Arabian looks is why Casino Security pulled me up.

So I added stickers, and painted, and painted more.... Now it looks a little like 'The Book Of The Dead'....

Next I want to make a new hard-cover case that looks a little more presentable for business engagements and the like.

Who has a suggestion for a cool book to convert into a new case for my Tablet?

At the moment I am thinking a Funk & Wagnel M-Z........

  1. Looks awesome! Am jealous of the cover.
I couldn't really have a cover. My needs are for a 10 Inch Tablet. I have just preordered my Notion Ink Adam. I would recommend this tablet to anyone who is looking for a 10 inch form factor tablet.
Otherwise, I agree with Crafty Geeky.. Wait until the end of March... Then make an awesome case like this one!!!

  2. You could and should have a cover. Mine uses spongy supports which work as a shock protector. I have no fear of throwing mine about the place with the protections a 'book-case' gives the tablet.

With a 10in you just need a big book!

  3. Yes. I have been told an encyclopedia would do the trick.. Maybe an Atlas! When I receive it I will evaluate my case needs, which will be interesting as I know that there haven't been any cases made for it yet!
